About our founder
HexArcana was created by Gynvael Coldwind, a cybersecurity researcher well known in the industry for his publications, educational efforts, as well as discovering and reporting close to 2000 security vulnerabilities over the last 20+ years.
Facts:
- 18+ years of cybersecurity industry experience. Previously part of Google's security team (12+ years), Hispasec – the company known for creating VirusTotal, and the ArcaBit antivirus company.
- Creator and the first captain of Dragon Sector – historically one of the best security Capture The Flag teams in the world and one of only two teams to have won 3 year-long seasons.
- Awarded the Pwnie Award (together with Mateusz Jurczyk) in the "Most Innovative Research" category in the field of computer security.
- Author of bestselling "Zrozumieć Programowanie" ("To Understand Programming") book, published by Polish Scientific Publishers PWN in 2015. The book was awarded "The Best IT Book of 2016" in the popular science category by the The Polish Information Processing Society.
- Co-author of bestselling "Wprowadzenie do Bezpieczeństwa IT" ("Introduction to IT Security") book, published by Securitum Wydawnictwo in 2023 – chapter "O etyce w hackingu" ("On ethics in hacking").
- Co-author and project lead of "Praktyczna Inżynieria Wsteczna" ("Reverse Engineering in Practice") book, published by Polish Scientific Publishers PWN in 2016.
- Creator and project lead of Paged Out! – a deeply technical IT & electronics magazine.
